Your first step to Learning Music itself is to Familiarize yourself with it!
Find everything possible that you can think of that has music notation in it and then listen to the song while following along in the music notation. Some people like to use tab instead.
Here is a great website for a lot of Tab. I recommend starting out with Tablature such as this:
Once you have done that, practice every day with your instrument and matching it up with the Tablature and your favorite songs. It is important no matter what instrument you use, to use the fingering techniques that people say to use every single day. Do NOT miss a day on this. It builds finger strength!
On a Guitar I use the 1-2-3-4 | 4-3-2-1 Method
What that is, is when you go fret by fret and finger by finger starting on the first string 1-2-3-4
Then the next string down, same thing 1-2-3-4 and so on.
Then once you reach the bottom string, do the whole process in reverse.
All this should give you the finger strength that is needed to play Guitar.
